Ten years ago, we would not have thought that classes would move from being held in schools to being held online. The Founder and President of Texila American University (TAU), Mr. Saju Bhaskar, envisioned a platform of online education back in 2015. This idea has grown into what is now the CXC Academy.
The CXC Academy was launched by Texila American University (TAU) and Smartlabz in partnership with Guyana’s Ministry of Education. This academy will serve as a digital tool to assist those attending the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations during this pandemic and beyond. TAU has developed the CXC Academy to serve as a supplementary and structured practice tool for students. It provides revision material and mock tests that students can access in Guyana and throughout the Caribbean region. The best part about this is that students can access the CXC Academy at no cost.
The platform contains an extensive database of CSEC examination questions for seven subjects: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Principles of Business, and Principle of Accounts. The CXC Academy’s materials are prepared by trained teachers based on the CSEC syllabus. For each subject area, the student will be able to access a question bank containing 500 questions. For better organization, the questions are categorized subject-wise in a chronological format.
The CXC Academy also allows the students to take up mock examinations once they have completed their revision. The mock examination comprises 20–30 questions from each subject area. The students will also be assisted in understanding the topic through free question analysis and feedback after completing the mock examination.
Some additional features that the CXC Academy offers the students are,
- Expert teachers conduct virtual revision classes on a bi-monthly basis.
- In-depth explanations and guidance during the revision sessions.
- Examination tips and techniques in blogs and videos developed by CSEC Learning Management Systems (LMS) experts.
The CXC Academy’s launch was attended by Dr. Dheeraj Bansal, Dean of the College of Medicine, Texila American University; Mr. Syam Kumar, Chief Executive Officer at Texila American University; and Miss Priya Devi Manickchand, Honorable Minister of Education.
Texila always believed in giving back to the community, and CXC academy is one such initiative from the Texila group. While students from Guyana consistently take their places in the list of toppers in the CXC exams, I strongly believe that the CXC Academy would be able to support the students with the resources needed for exam preparation through continuous practice.

During the launch event, Mr. Syam Kumar mentioned that this platform is a part of giving back to society. Further, he said, “We have further plans to enhance the portfolio and add more subjects and more questions over a period of time. We are really excited about this opportunity, and I sincerely hope this initiative will pave the way for further technological advancement in the field of education in Guyana.”
Dr. Dheeraj Bansal expressed how he is excited about the initiative’s launch and added that Texila is committed to education development and that the academy is aligned with that commitment. He expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health for allowing TAU to be a part of educational development in Guyana.
Honorable Minister of Education Priya Devi Manickchand commended Texila’s initiative towards assisting the student in learning during this pandemic. She added that the CXC academy would be of help not only to grade 11 students but also to grade 10 students preparing to write the CSEC examination next year. She thanked TAU on behalf of the students and the Government of Guyana.
Students can register with the CXC Academy on its official website at cxc.academy. Once an account is created, students can order subjects at no cost. An annual subscription to CXC Academy is also free. The registered students will be redirected to the learning management system.
TAU’s fundamental objective is to protect youths’ education and learning opportunities during and following the pandemic. With over 15 years of experience in the education and technology sectors, TAU aims to continue developing innovative programs, facilities, and operations to prepare students for greater educational and career opportunities.
